Girl Scouts In Action

In the true spirit of Girl Scout service and compassion, Girl Scouts throughout Suffolk County
have wasted no time in rushing to aid thousands of victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Following are examples of some good works that are being performed throughout Suffolk County:

SU 1 – Is  addressing the need for baby items like formula and diapers.  Supplies will be brought to Long Island Cares emergency shelters

SU 3 - The Red Cross is handing out Comfort Kits that SU 3 donated to them. A back-up supply is ready as well.  This service unit is also planning additional support for people in need.

SU 4 – Set up a collection site to help the hard-hit areas of Lindenhurst. They collected items such as  hot food and coffee,  paper goods, cleaning products, baby wipes, batteries, flashlights, gasoline for generators, paper plates and cups.

SU 7 – Hosted a successful food drive at a local Stop and Shop.

SU 16 – Troops in SU 16  brought 15 trays of delicious hot food to serve to the Lindenhurst community hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.

SU 17 - Armed with large with jugs of coffee, hot chocolate, muffins and donuts, volunteers from this service unit walked through the streets closest to the beach in West Islip.  They received a few hugs and were met with a few tears.

SU18 – Hosted a food Drive and made 300 Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches that were dropped off at a center that is taking items out to the Mastic area.

SU 40 - Is formulating a plan of action, focusing on the upcoming holidays. They are looking forward to hosting a massive toy collection/drive that aims to have affected families able to come, pick out some items, and wrap them up for the holidays.

SU 46 – An independent Girl Scout in this Service Unit is helping out her hometown of Rockaway by collecting clothing, blankets, sheets, non-perishable foods, baby items, toiletries, cleaning products and much more.

SU 59 - Is holding a large “Stuff-A-Truck” food drive at local supermarkets as well as at 7-11 and Walmart. The event will be held simultaneously at the store locations later this month.

SU 1 - Donated baby formula, diapers, blankets, and winter coats to GSSC's Hurricane Relief collection site. SU 3 - Is preparing Red Cross Emergency Personal Comfort kits. They have donated over 162 kits. They are also collecting coats, gloves, and winter wear.
