Dear Friends,

Thank you all so much for all your well wishes and thoughtful concern. We have received many requests from both Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts throughout the nation on status updates and ways they can assist with Hurricane Sandy disaster relief in Suffolk County.

Suffolk Update

Many of our volunteers and Girl Scouts have been hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Some lost their homes to flooding, while all have been struggling with power outages and the resultant consequences. Gasoline supply issues have, unfortunately, compounded the frustration and severity of their situations.

Yet, our Girl Scouts have been inspiring! Girls and volunteers have been collecting food and baby items, distributing blankets and other needed materials, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and working within their communities to help those in need.

How You Can Help

  • We are collecting the following items, which may be dropped off at any one of our three agency locations:
    • Non-perishable food
    • Baby items (including formula, diapers and wipes)
  • Monetary donations will be used to assist families in need.

If you have questions about donations, please contact Mary Garrote at or

Together, we will make it through this difficult time.
